The Bau Nyale Festival is a hereditary tradition of the Sasak people. The enthusiasm of the people was very high and the reception was carried out with great fanfare as the festival was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. but now this festival can be held again, because this festival can be a catalyst for the revival and economic recovery of the people of NTB. The Sasak tribe of Lombok Island has an annual cultural tradition that is rooted in local community legend and is now used as a cultural festival called Bau Nyale, one of Lombok Island's tourism icons.
The annual cultural tradition is Bau Nyale, which etymologically comes from the Sasak language, that is, from the word Bau which means "to catch" and the word Nyale which means "marine worms", so the Bau Nyale tradition is a tradition of catching marine worms. Bau Nyale is a very important tradition for the people of Central Lombok and is part of the richness and uniqueness of the culture of this region.
“Every year the people of Central Lombok greet the arrival of Bau Nyale with great enthusiasm and joy. Bau Nyale is a community activity to catch sea worms that takes place every 20th of the 10th month of the traditional Sasak calendar (rampanan pranata) or exactly 5 days after the full moon, usually between February and March each year.
