Bats are animals that are synonymous with night. He usually only comes out at night and falls asleep during the day. Bats often take a nap in hidden caves or shady trees. So it's hard for us humans to directly see the bat habitat and their interactions, but here in Watansoppeng City, Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi. In this city, which is about 180 km north of Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, it is easy to find bat habitats even if you are in the center of the city.
If you come during the day, you can see hundreds of bats sleeping upside down on tamarind branches in this place, one of the tourist attractions of South Sulawesi. Bats here are not afraid of human presence, they usually nest in caves or dark and dense forests. However, it is different from the bats in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi, which actually nest in the trees in the center of Watansoppeng town. You will feel the bustling sound of thousands of bats with a very penetrating aroma. This colony of thousands of bats later became the icon of Soppeng Regency, which became known as the City of Bats. However, the existence of bats in Soppeng Regency is not a coincidence. Not in vain the bat is in the middle of the city. Several legends have been mentioned by local grandmothers one of which relates to a bat contract with the king of Soppeng 'La Temmamala' through the intercession of a daughter who has the advantage of understanding the language of animals. It tells the story of a group of bats that flee because they want to be exterminated. FACILITIES ARE PROVIDED HERE In this place there is also a fountain next to the bat statue with the image of TAMANG KALONG in front. At night the fountain is activated and then embellished with decorative lights that illuminate the fountain. There are plenty of park seats and benches in the garden that can be used to relax. There are also three pavilions that are also free to enter.
